I really enjoy using "word boxes" to encourage vocabulary relevant to a current holiday, season, event, etc. They are so versatile and can be used with different ages.
Younger children can trace the letters with their fingers, hunt for a specific letter throughout the words ("how many letter 'e's can you find?) or choose cards and repeat you as you read to them.
Older children can use the words to copy, read, build sentences, write stories or hunt for specific sounds/letters.

Although it's not quite fall, it's just around the corner and it's probably my favorite season. I have the fall candles burning and the pumpkin "pins" flowing on Pinterest in preparation. I pulled out one of our Dollar Store boxes, pulled the summer words out from it (store these in an envelope to use again next year) and filled it with some fall vocabulary words.
Our Fall Word Box includes:
bake
pumpkin
apples
September
October
November
squash
autumn
fall
cool
yellow
orange
brown
scarf
sweater
pie
spice
What words would you add to the Fall Word Box list?
