Apple Book Report

My big first grader, Ellie, is such a little book worm.  She loves the Junie B. Jones chapter book series, and reads through a couple of them a week.  This week, she read through Junie B. Jones and her Big Fat Mouth in less than 24 hours, which left me feeling suspicious that she hadn't actually read it all.  So, we sat down together, and I went through the book chapter by chapter asking her all sorts of questions. I quickly realized that she not only read the whole book, but she remembered absolutely everything about it.  I guess she got my husband's awesome memory.

Anyway, this left me thinking that it would be a great time to start book reports.  Although they'll be super simple at first, eventually we can get more in depth and I can use them to help check her comprehension of the books she's reading (because really, when she's reading several chapter books a week, there's just no way I can be listening and checking up on her all the time).

Today's apple book report was super cute.  Her handwriting drives me nuts, and I'm constantly having to remind myself that she's only 5 years old, and that I need to have patience with her in that area (my husband, consequently, keeps reminding me that I have bad handwriting, too-stinker!).

I cut out and prepared the apple for her, but you could always have your child cut out the pieces themselves.

I'm super glad I took a picture of this when I did because at lunch time I spilled water all over it.  So sad.  Just another reason I should have quickly added it to my "special papers" binder  :)
